adidas Originals x David Beckham/design by J.Bond AW11 collection

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

The first drop of the adidas ObyO x David Beckham AW11 collection has began to land in size? stores and online so we thought it only fair to give you a sneak peek ahead of the heavily anticipated and slightly delayed launch (blame adidas not us) this Friday.

For this season, Beckham and designer James Bond (founder of US streetwear brand Undefeated) drew inspiration from two styles, the collegiate look and the uniform/military look, to create yet another exciting and sophisticated collection.

The first drop from the range, which in our opinion is the best to come out of this top end collaboration series so far, launches in limited availability from selected size? stores and online this Friday (26th August) with a second drop due in October.

New Balance 1500 (purple/white & red/white)

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

new-balance-flimby-factory-323

One key characteristic that keeps New Balance separate from other footwear brands is their numbering system to differentiate styles and is based on the brands viewpoint that no trainer is the same. This philosophy has pretty much remained the same since New Balance was established back in 1906. To keep it simple, the higher the number, the more technically advance and premium the shoe.

Produced as part of New Balance’s flagship running shoe series during the 1980’s running boom, the 1500 followed on from the already popular 1300 and 1400 silhouettes, it took 3 years to design and was described by New Balance as the ‘closest thing yet to the perfect running shoe’ when it released in 1989.

The 1500 has always fallen under New Balance’s ‘Made In England’ banner and these latest editions are hand constructed by 220 skilled staff at New Balance’s and Great Britain’s only remaining domestic trainer factory in Flimby, West Cumbria, England.

Back in ‘89 it broke new ground in the UK when it became the first trainer to exceed the £100 mark. Thankfully, however, in a world where everything seems to cost more than it used to, these modern day incarnations, which will be available from size? online next Wednesday (31st August), will only set you back £85. Not bad considering!

There’s no exact release date for the dark brown/orange colour-up at the moment, all we can say for now is it’ll be available as part of the worldwide exclusive Adi’s Archive collection at size? stores and online later on this year.

In the meantime, enjoy the picture and keep checking back for further info in the not too distant future.

Nike Sportswear Lava Dunk Hi VNTG QS & Lava Dome QS

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

New for AW11 and a first for us at size?, Nike Sportswear present these two tasty colourways in the Lava Dunk.

Essentially, (and as the name would suggest) the Lava Dunk is a hybrid between two Nike silhouettes from the ’80’s, the Lava Dome (1981) and the Dunk Hi (1985), and when it first debuted towards the end of last year it was clear it was going to be a hit.

Although not two of the most obvious models to ‘hybrid’, we like what Nike have done here, the sand/blue colourway being our preferred choice.

And for those that prefer the original……, Nike have also reissued the Lava Dome in two colourways (blk/yell & gry/nvy), complete with a vintage treatment.

The Lava Dome’s are available from size? stores and online now, whereas the Lava Dunk’s release on Friday (26th). Both silhouettes are QuickStrike releases, which basically means they’re pretty limited and wont be around for long so don’t miss out!

adidas-ransom2

The Ransom Holding Company was founded in Toronto, Canada, back in 2002 and embodies a retail progression that encompasses their culture and general proud Canadian heritage. Their collaboration series with adidas Originals draw inspiration from classic, technical hiking footwear and cross it with modern day casual trainers.

For inspiration for their autumn/winter 2011 collection, the team at Ransom decided to a take a journey to a place they know best; coastal British Columbia and the extensive Pemberton Icecaps. In their early years, the Canadian brand spent a lot of time in this part of the world, thus deciding to share a little piece of the brands history and the areas outstanding natural beauty in the photography for their lookbook and designs for the new collection.

adidas Originals London (navy/white/gum)

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

jd148-autumn-0012

One of the most popular silhouettes from the legendary adidas City Series, the London first hit the shelves in the late 1970’s. Since then it’s had many material and colour ups, each one proving to be as successful as the last, and this latest colourway is no exception.

A must for the adi collectors out there, the nvy/wht/gum London will be available at size? stores and online from tomorrow (19th August).

Nike Air Jordan V (black/varsity red-silver)

Monday, August 15th, 2011

Originally released in 1990, the Air Jordan V has been reissued once again and is due to drop in size? stores and online soon for the first time in this colour combination since 2006.

When designing what would become one of the most iconic Air Jordan silhouettes of all time, top Nike designer - Tinker Hatfield, looked toward the WWII Mustang fighter plane for inspiration for the teeth styling on the midsole, paying tribute to Michael Jordan’s ariel domination on the courts of the NBA. In a year that saw MJ win his fourth scoring title, it was in the V’s that he achieved a career high 69 point game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The J5 has seen a number of colour ups and material changes over the years, however, for this 2011 retro the guys at Jordan Brand have kept the changes relatively subtle. The upper utilises a soft nubuck, which should help reduce the creasing effect to the toe box that we’ve seen with so many Jordan’s over the years, and an ice blue outsole, which should help combat that age old issue of yellowing. For the tongue, Nike have again gone with the same reflective 3M material that made the V a hit 21 years ago.

All in all, this latest incarnation of an all time classic is a must for fans new and old and one not to be missed. After all, we’ve had to wait 5 years since this colourway was last out…

The black/varsity red-silver Air Jordan V will be available from size? stores and online from this Friday (19th August).
