adidas Originals Tobacco

Friday, December 30th, 2011

tobacco_l_v24512_side1

tobacco_l_v24511_sideThe Tobacco by adidas Originals is a true terrace classic and a model that’s been crying out for a reissue for a number of years now. First released in 1978 as part of an all round leisure/lifestyle range, the original Tobacco featured a brown suede upper with contrasting Three-stripe branding.

Similar in many ways to a lot of early adidas releases, like the original Gazelle and the City collection (particularly the London), the Tobacco is a relatively lightweight, slim line silhouette that benefits from the comfort of a gum sole unit. The shoe’s design is classic ‘70’s adidas - subtle and clean, which is probably why it’s one of the most desirable models from the adidas back catalogue, especially with the older adi heads.

Released as part of adidas Originals spring/summer 2012 collection, these two new colourways, which both feature a supple leather upper and contrasting suede branding, are set to land in size? stores and online next week.

Nike Pre Montreal Racer QS - UK exclusive

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

dsc_0056-1

New for spring 2012 and a UK exclusive to us at size?, Nike Sportswear bring us this new colourway in one of their oldest/most iconic running silhouettes, the Pre Montreal Racer.

First released in 1973, the Pre Montreal Racer was originally a racing spike shoe designed specifically for mid & long distance runner Steve Roland Prefontaine. Prefontaine, or ‘Pre’ as his friends and colleagues called him, was a student at the University Of Oregon and Nike’s first ever-sponsored athlete. At the age of 21, he clinched 4th position in the final of the coveted 5000 meters at the 1972 Munich Olympics, but despite this great achievement his full potential was seen by many to still be in the developing stages. Following Munich, Pre would break countless state and US records in pursuit of his ultimate dream, winning a medal at the fast approaching 1976 Montreal Olympics. Seen by many around the world at the time as the favorite to take a number of mid and long distance gold medals in Montreal, Pre tragically lost his life on 30th May 1975 when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his orange MGB convertible after returning from a party, shattering his and many others dreams.

Since his death, Nike have continuously paid homage to Pre’s life, achievements and potential in various forms and spring 2012 is no exception with the reissue of the Pre Montreal Racer. Featuring a two tone suede and nylon upper and distinctive Nike Vintage treatment, they launch exclusively in the UK from size? stores and online tomorrow (Friday 23rd Dec).

Nike Air Yeezy 2 - detailed pictures released!

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

nike-air-yeezy-2-up-close-look-03-1

After much talk and speculation on materials, colourways and release dates, these are the first detailed pics we’ve seen of the upcoming Nike Air Yeezy 2!

As the shots would suggest, the sole unit seems to be that of the one used on the Air Tech Challenge 2 (last seen circa 2008), whilst the upper consists of a combination of crocodile skin, suede and nylon mesh. As for colourways, if these pics and the ones of Kanye wearing them at various events recently are anything to go by, it would appear these black/pink/mint green ones are the real deal.

The one thing we can be certain of is that when the Air Yeezy 2’s do eventually release (scheduled at the moment as 23rd March) they will be one of the hottest releases of the year.

In the meantime though, and until we have more news, enjoy what you see and head over to Sneaker Freaker for more close-ups.

Nike Air Jordan XIV “Last shot” Retro

Friday, December 16th, 2011

air-jordan-14-black-red-last-shot-1

Originally released on general sale in 1999, the Air Jordan XIV (14) was the last model MJ wore on the courts before his retirement from the Chicago Bulls on 13th January 1999 and is perhaps best know as the shoe Michael wore scoring the ‘last shot’ against Utah Jazz to clinch the 1997/98 title and the Bulls 6th championship in 8 years.

Top Nike designers Tinker Hatfield and Mark Smith drew inspiration from Michaels Ferrari 550M to create (at the time) one of the most iconic releases from the Jordan Brand catalogue.

The XIV was the first of three consecutive Jordan models to feature metal lace aglets (lace tips) and the first to begin a trend of having a number of features that would count up to the models number (each foot of the XIV features 7 Jumpman logos).

Release for only the time in it’s original and best colourway, the Nike Air Jordan XIV “Last shot” (blk/var red-blk) releases in limited numbers from size? stores and online tomorrow (17th December).

Nike Bruin VNTG

First released in 1972 and baring close resemblance to it’s hi-top cousin the Blazer, which also debuted the same year, the Bruin was Nike’s first venture into the world low-top basketball footwear. Key features included a herringbone outsole, additional panels on hi-impact areas of the upper; like the toe box, and a fat belly Swoosh.

Despite being produced initially as a basketball specific silhouette, the Bruin’s popularity grew off the court as much as it did on, and it soon established itself as a true all rounder when it was adopted by the rising b-boy culture and Romanian tennis star Ilie Nastase who favoured it’s simple styling and lightweight design. It was also a hit with musician Elton John who was pictured wearing them on stage for many of his early performances.

The Bruin is a silhouette that’s not seen much of an emergence over recent years, but one that many have called for it’s reissue. New for spring 2012 and complete with vintage treatment, the team at Nike Sportswear bring us three new colourways in this all time classic shoe, each one featuring a brushed suede upper.

The ‘varsity royal/sail-white’, ‘pine green/sail-white’ & ‘black/sail-black’ Bruin’s will be available from size? store and online in early January.
