Puma Squash 2000

Friday, January 13th, 2012

dsc_0029

New for spring 2012, Puma once again dig deep into their extensive back catalogue and bring us a new colourway in the Squash 2000.

First launched in 1983, and as the name would suggest, as a squash/indoor specific silhouette, the Squash 2000 is a fine example of Puma’s heritage. Super lightweight in construction but supportive and durable, the low profile design and aesthetics of the Squash 2000 have been kept as true to the original as possible for this release.

Featuring a mix of nylon and suede in the upper with a distinctive gum sole unit, this blue/white-gum colourway will be available alongside a black/gold/gum version from size? stores and online later this month (date TBC).

A slight change from the usual product related post this one, but never the less one we think is worth sharing….

To help support the launch of their new store opening in Moscow, the guys at Nike Sportswear enlisted the work of local graphic designer Aske aka Sicksystems to come up with something new and imaginative. The result, a plywood sculpture entitled ‘The Wolf’, is Sicksystems take on the icon AF1 Duck Boot that released at the end of last year.

Nike V-Series - size? exclusive

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

nike_verticals

Following on from the success of last years popular OG V-Series bring back, we’re proud to announce the upcoming release of our very own size? worldwide exclusive collaboration with Nike Sportswear.

Consisting of the Vengeance (1984), Venture (1985) and Vortex (1985), the original V-Series were a trio of lightweight/technical running shoes launched in the middle of the 1980’s running boom at a time when the design of running footwear was breaking boundaries with each and every release.

Each silhouette in the collection had its own individual key features; the Vengeance, built for the long distance runner, was all about reduced weight and benefited from a stripped down upper and added arch support. The Venture was designed with support in mind for heavier/broader-footed runners and featured extra cushioning and protection in the heel area and outside edge of the shoe and was a particular favourite with overpronate athletes. And the Vortex, an all-round combination of the two, was for the stereotypical ‘standard’ runner who required both cushioning and support.

Something else that helped the original V-Series stand out from its competitors at the time was Nike’s choice of bold/eye-catching colours and it’s here we’ve paid tribute to with our releases. From the contrasting metallic gold Nylon and brushed dark sand suede of the Venture, the two-tone navy/blue and cherry red Swoosh pop of the Vortex, to the subtle silver, grey and gold of the Vengeance, each model, complete with Nike’s vintage treatment, is limited to just 500 pairs and will be available exclusively from size? stores and online in February (exact date TBC).

One for the golfers out there and new for spring 2012, the design team at Nike’s golf department pay homage to one of the most recognisable silhouettes in footwear history by releasing the Nike Dunk NG.

Essentially an updated, waterproof version of the iconic Dunk upper but with the addition of Scorpion Stinger Spikes on the outsole, the Dunk NG stays as true to the original 1985 release as possible by giving golfers the opportunity to colour match their footwear with their Nike Golf Sport Collection outfit.

Complete with two sets of laces, the Nike Dunk NG is available in a range of mens and women’s colourways and although we wont be stocking them at size? we thought we’d share this with you.

Nike Huarache Free 2012

New for spring 2012 and off the back of the success of the a Quickstrike version that featured OG colours, the team at Nike Sportswear bring us these two new inline colourways in one of their most anticipated hybrid silhouettes, the Huarache Free 2012.

The original Air Huarache released back in 1991 and has since become one of the most sought after silhouettes from Nike’s back catalogue and one that we along with many others have been calling for a reissue for a long time now.

Like the OG, the Huarache Free 2012 with its ‘Swoosh less’ design fits like a glove thanks to the stretch grip neoprene upper, and whereas the original Nylon toe box has been replaced with a breathable mesh, the lightweight runner benefits from the addition of the super comfy Free 5.0 sole unit resulting in the perfect combination of past and present Nike styling and technology.

Both colourways of the Nike Huarache Free 2012 will be available here at size? with the black/yellow-white colourway set to land in stores and online this week and the grey/blue-white scheduled for February.

Nike Air Flow

Friday, January 6th, 2012

cherry-21

First launched in 1989, the Nike Air Flow is a predecessor to better known lightweight Nike running silhouettes; the Air Huarache (’91), Air Rift (’95) and Air Presto (’00) and is as distinctive for its unique shape as it is for its eye-catching colourways.

Upcoming Nike designer and the man behind 1982’s Air Force 1 - Bruce Kilgore - experimented with a number of different materials and patterns that were seen as massively revolutionary for the era when designing the Air Flow to produce a silhouette way ahead of its time. Constructed of a nylon, Lycra and synthetic suede upper, the Air Flow also featured an encapsulated Air Unit in the sole, which added support, cushioning and comfort.

Last seen in its original guise in 2011 to much acclaim as Tier Zero release, causing overnight queues and a quite a few unlucky faces, the Air Flow is back as an inline release for spring 2012 in two new colourways that couldn’t be any further apart. Both of which will be available in limited numbers from size? stores and online with the photo blue/cherry-white colourway releasing next week and the anthracite/black-white dropping in February.

adidas Originals Rod Laver Vintage - size? exclusive

Friday, January 6th, 2012

side

Released in its original form for the first time in a good few years, the adidas Originals Rod Laver is a shoe that needs very little introduction! First seen on the feet of Australian tennis star Rodney George Laver in 1970, the Laver, like the Stan Smith (1964), conformed to the then very strict rules in tennis by removing the 3-Stripe branding from the upper resulting in a super clean lightweight silhouette that in time would become a huge hit off the court.

Featuring a breathable mesh upper and a one-piece leather toe-box and tongue, the Laver also benefited from a herringbone outsole, which would prove key and help Laver win countless Grand Slam titles and on court records, some of which still stand to this day.

The adidas Originals Rod Laver Vintage releases as a size? worldwide exclusive as part of our Adi’s Archive spring 2012 collection and is available from size? stores and online today (6th January).
