adidas Originals Team GB apparel collection: 1984 LA Olympics

tee-540

A couple of weeks ago we previewed 3 pieces of footwear from the upcoming adidas Originals Team GB collection and now we bring you further info on some matching apparel.

The collection is inspired by the original kit that Team GB wore at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, with the standout piece a replica #398 shirt that Daley Thompson wore whilst winning gold in the decathlon.

In total, the collection is made up of 6 pieces of apparel and 4 pieces of footwear, a selection of which will be available from selected size? stores and online in the coming weeks.

Carhartt WIP SS12 campaign - Constructed Reality

7cb78428e4624ad05feb9eefee8e926f4

German photographer Alexander Basile has been working with Carhartt Work In Progess (Carhartt’s European division) for the past 11 years and has created a number of different campaigns and lookbooks, each time more diverse than the last.

Basile’s work has always been regarded as expressive and this can clearly be seen in this video for the making of Carhartt WIP’s spring/summer 2012 lookbook. Entitled “Constructed Reality”, the collection of shots/looks were taken in everyday scenes, which were built to look intentionally fake and give the impression that all the elements in a shot are prefabricated and the only things that seem real the clothes themselves. To prove the “Constructed Reality” feel, the set was then intentionally destroyed after the shoot as can be seen in this video.

adidas Originals Malmo - new colourway

side5

The next shoe to drop as part of our ongoing Adi’s Archive collaboration series with adidas Originals is one that we first previewed back in December. Featuring a traditional suede upper with leather 3-Stripe branding and a gum sole unit, we decided to go down the summery route when choosing the colourway for this latest Malmo and took inspiration from a reissue of the adidas Athen, another silhouette from adidas’ original and very sought after City Series.

We’ve no exact info on the release date yet, however you will be able to get hold of them exclusively from size? stores and online sometime in February, hopefully when the weather outside reflects the shoes bright colourway a bit better.

Keep checking back for more details, but in the meantime enjoy the pics…..

Nike WMNS Air Max 1

side4Now in it’s 25th year, the original and best silhouette from Nike’s ‘Air Max’ series has enjoyed a mass resurgence over the last 6 months or so thanks to a number of strong colourway and material options and this looks set to continue with the launch of this women’s specific version.

As material options go, this is how a Max 1 should be constructed in our opinion! The shoe was originally released as a running silhouette after all, so faux suede and a breathable mesh upper should be standard on all Max 1’s, right?! Each to their own of course, however, there’s no doubting that this colourway is as strong as any of the Max 1’s that we’ve seen so far this year and a good sign of things to come for the remainder of 2012.

The ‘pink cooler/red mahogany-white-gym red’ women’s Air Max 1 will be available at size? stores and online from Thursday (2nd Feb) in UK sizes 5 – 9.

Everypeoples: Top Twelve trainers of 2011

top_12_1

A nice little feature here from the guys over at everypeoples.com, a twist on their top 12 trainers of 2011….

Inspired by the cardboard boxes that the shoes actually come in, Everypeoples put their creative spin on the their favourites from the year that brought us the birth of a new wave of streetwear fans, or as Everypeoples put it; 2011 was a crazy year for trainers. What started out with retro Jordan’s sitting on the shelves for months turned into hundreds of chino wearing, Beats by Dre donning snap-backed youths queuing quietly outside shops across the country.”, a statement that couldn’t sum up 2011 any better!

To see the feature in full head over to everypeoples.com

Enjoy!

Nike Air Huarache Free B-Ball 2012

24

March sees the release of yet another hybrid from Nike, this time in the form of the Air Huarache Free B-Ball. Featuring the same Free sole unit as that used on the Huarache Free 2012 that dropped the other week, the Huarache Free B-Ball, which as the name would suggest is build for use on the court, is a modern take on 1992’s Air Flight Huarache and is a silhouette that’s split opinions here at the size? office.

The original Air Flight Huarache (minus the Free sole) was designed by Nike design guru Tinker Hatfield who set out on a mission to conjure up a basketball specific silhouette like nothing ever seen before. Using a Mayan sandal (of all things) for inspiration, the result was not initially well received. People weren’t convinced it could perform on the courts because of it’s lack of a decent ankle support and the fact it looked more like a sandal than a basketball shoe, however, in time, and after some clever marketing from Nike, it became a hit and gained a decent following of fans (particularly State side) who favoured it’s lightweight/stripped back design and eye-catching colourway.

As hybrids go this one appears to make sense, the Free sole unit combines well with the retro looking upper and the OG colourway finishes things off nicely. An exact release date is still be to confirmed, but you can expect to see both colourways in size? stores and online sometime in March

adidas Originals ‘Great Britain’ Pack

size_adi_union_final

As the games fast approach, we’re starting to see an influx of Olympic inspired product from all the key brands and it’s not hard to see why. Be it summer or winter, the Olympics are a big deal when it comes to brand recognition and the income generated by getting your brand more recognised than the next can easily run into the millions! One brand, however, has the upper hand on the rest, adidas. As one of the official sponsors of London 2012 they have the “official” right to use the word ‘Olympic’ without even as much as a hesitation or the potential of a law suit.

adidas’ official London 2012 Olympic apparel range did start hitting the high street towards the end of last year, but it’s until now that we’ve really started to see any pieces that we like and that starts with the adidas Originals ‘Great Britain’ Pack.

Consisting of a Handball 5-Plug and two Gazelle Indoor’s, the trio are, as you’d expect, draped in GB colours and branding. The stand out shoe in the collection from our point of view has to be the navy suede Gazelle Indoor, however we’re impressed with all three individually and their use of gum sole units. The only downside we can see is the choice of blue in the Handball 5-Plug, as although it’s pretty similar to the OG colourway, we’d have preferred to see it match the navy used on the Indoor’s. That said though, if this pack is a sign of things to come then we’re expecting big things from all brands in the build up to July 27th.

The adidas Originals ‘Great Britain’ Pack will be available from size? stores and online in February (exact date TBC).

adidas Originals x David Beckham - spring/summer 2012 footwear collection

beckham

David Beckham and UNDFTD’s James Bond collaborate once again to bring their spring/summer 2012 capsule collection of adidas Originals footwear and apparel. Said to reflect Beckham’s personal style, the range features collegiate and military inspired apparel alongside a collection of technically inspired premium footwear. On the footwear side of things we see a return of the ZX800 DB, Doley and Forest Hills Mid, alongside the addition of the subtly styled Grand Prix and the not so subtle Mega Torsion Flex ClimaCool. A tech looking running specific silhouette, the super lightweight Mega Torsion Flex is based on 2002’s ClimaCool Runner and benefits from adidas’ ClimaCool ventilation system, which is designed to create a 360-degree cooling effect to the upper.

The adidas Originals x David Beckham spring/summer 2012 collection releases on Friday 10th February and will be available in limited numbers from our Leeds, Liverpool, Southampton, Glasgow and Hull stores and also online.
