Based on the true story of Shepard Fairey’s first act of street art, OBEY THE GIANT tells the story of a young skate punk challenging a big-city mayor and the powers-that-be at art school.

Since the start of the early 1990s, Shepard Fairy has been creating street art with wrestler Andre the Giant as his forwarding artwork. Looking into the birth of his now famous signature piece, this short film aptly named OBEY THE GIANT, is the first narrative film about the world-famous artist and the initial origins of the OBEY brand.

Directed by Julian Marshall, the film focuses hugely on his inability to achieve any respect from anyone within his art school, he sets out with the goal of making himself none. With the help of his close friend and the face of former Mayor Buddy Cianci, Shepard quickly learns that attention, if any at all, comes with a price – whether it’s good or bad.
