Nike 78 – Artistic Innovation

Share This:

Nike has always been on the forefront of both design and innovation, but sometimes these two important aspects don’t always come from the brands Innovation Kitchen, and instead is produced by independent artists. Nike 78 was created back in 2010 by art director Paul Jenkins, who has recently work alongside adidas Originals Consortium and lifestyle supplier MUJI, with the task to create something that challenges the function of Nike shoes.

With such a huge array of artistic talent involved, there was no initial thought to how varied the final pieces would be, and even Nike were surprised with what was produced. From pieces that have been sculpted from Perspex and natural materials such as duck eggs, to digital works presented as shorts films and photography, the collection of art is huge and will have you wondering what relation they have with a simple sportswear brand such as Nike.
